(KCEN) -- The Department of Defense will not label the Fort Hood massacre as a terrorist attack.
This, after victims' families made a plea to the Pentagon to reclassify the attack as terrorism instead of workplace violence.
A Department of Defense spokesman says the government re-classifying the shooting could bias the case against Maj. Nidal Hasan.
Changing the attack to an act of terrorism would make service-member victims eligible for Purple Heart medals and grant them access to extended medical care, similar to soldiers wounded in war.
