
The McLennan Highlassies defeated the Jacksonville Lady Jaguars 69-60 in overtime tonight in Jacksonville.
Both
teams started slow. Jacksonville built a six-point lead with just under
nine minutes to play in the first half. MCC cut the lead to two but the
Lady Jaguars pulled away, extending the lead to 13 with 1:08 to go. The
Highlassies' Shanice Davis scored five points in the final 40 seconds
of the half to cut the lead to eight at the break, 30-22.
MCC
opened the second half on a 4-0 run. The Highlassies took their first
lead of the game at 42-41 with 9:21 remaining in the game. The game was
tight the rest of the way. Dominique Taylor's free throw with 19.71
seconds to play gave MCC a three-point lead but Breanna Burford drained a
3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.
The Highlassies outscored the Lady Jaguars 14-5 in the extra period to steal the win.
Freshman Shanice Davis led the Highlassies with 23 points.
