(KCEN) -- Gas is a hot commodity in New York and New Jersey right now in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy.
Some people are cashing in by selling gas for outrageously high prices on Craigslist.
Prices on the web are as high as $30 a gallon.
The average price of regular unleaded gas in New York is $3.96 a gallon and $3.62 in New Jersey.
Price gouging is illegal in both states.
But in spite of the legal issues, some drivers may be willing to pay more rather than wait.
Consumers have braved hours-long lines at gas stations to get fuel for their vehicles or power generators.
