(KCEN) -- Santa and his reindeer should prepare to hit some extra traffic this holiday season.

According to Homeaway, he world's largest online marketplace for vacation rentals, the number of people traveling in December is expected to be nearly double that of last year.

That would be an increase from 22 percent in 2011 to 40 percent this year.

The survey also found that even though more people will be traveling, they won't be traveling as far as they did last year as they remain conscious of expenses.
