ASC Volleyball Awards/All-Conference Teams Announced

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team placed five players on the American Southwest Conference All-Conference Teams released today. Sapphire Reid was also voted ASC Newcomer of the Year. The Cru had one player voted First Team All-Conference, two players voted to the All-Conference Second Team and had two players earn Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.
        
Reid took Newcomer of the Year honors and also claimed a spot on the All-Conference First Team. The senior outside hitter from Copper Cove High School, posted 203 kills, 217 digs and 27 total blocks despite missing time early in the season with injuries. Reid averaged 2.90 kills per set after transferring to UMHB from Long Island University this season.

Shelby Prather and Tina Miller were named to the All-Conference Second Team. Prather, a freshman setter from Leander High School, led the Cru with 931 assists, averaging 8.95 assists per set. She added 49 kills, a team-best 33 service aces and 239 digs. Miller, a senior outside hitter from Copperas Cove High School, led UMHB with 307 kills and a .258 hitting percentage. She also posted 82 total blocks and 15 service aces.
        
Lauren Powell and Kendall Pye were named Honorable Mention All-Conference. Powell, a freshman outside hitter from The Woodlands High School, posted 237 kills and added 18 service aces. She also had 268 digs and 23 total blocks. Pye, a freshman right side and setter from A&M Consolidated High School, finished with 205 kills and hit .236 for the season. She also recorded 172 assists, 14 service aces, 304 digs and 55 total blocks.
        
Miller is a four-time All-Conference selection. This is the first All-Conference honor for Reid, Prather, Powell and Pye.

The Cru finished the 2012 season with a 22-8 overall record and UMHB went 12-4 in ASC play. The Cru advanced to the ASC Championship Tournament for the second straight season before falling in the semifinals. UMHB set a new school Division III era single-season record with the 22 victories, topping the previous mark of 21 set last season.
