IRVING, Texas –
Baylor
freshman Lauren Taylor has been named October's Big 12 Conference
Women's Golfer of the Month, as announced by the conference office on
Wednesday. Taylor became the first freshman in the conference
to win the award since teammate Hayley Davis was honored in September 2011.
A
Rugby, England, native, Taylor shot five of six rounds at or below par
during the month, and her only other round was 1-over-par. She recorded a
5-under-par 211 at the Alamo Invitational,
posting the best score by any Baylor player this season.
Taylor
turned in back-to-back top-5 finishes while carding a career-low 69 in
the second round at the Alamo Invitational. She finished tied for fourth
in the Tar Heel Invitational and second
at the Alamo Invitational.
Taylor
improved her scores the deeper she got into tournaments, finishing the
fall season with a 74.00 stroke average in first rounds, 72.75 stroke
average in second rounds and 71.00 stroke
average in final rounds.
Baylor finished in second place in two of four tournaments during the fall schedule. The Lady Bears were never lower than sixth place after any round in any of the four tournaments they played. Baylor's spring schedule begins Feb. 4 when the Lady Bears travel to Coral Gables, Fla., for the Hurricane Invitational.
