Colorado Governor Warns Residents to Be Patient With New Marijuana Law

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Colorado is set to become the first state to fully legalize marijuana after the passage of Amendment 64 on Tuesday.

But the Governor warned supporters "Don't break out the Cheetos or goldfish yet," since it's still illegal under federal law.

The snacks are what some marijuana smokers use to satisfy the so-called munchies brought on by smoking pot.

One marijuana advocate made sure the Governor had his own personal supply of snacks by delivering some goldfish and Cheetos to his office.

Attorney and marijuana advocate Robert Corry said, "I decided to break out the Cheetos and goldfish for him and try to move the process along a little bit and I'm happy the Governor is being tongue and cheek about this a little bit of levity is always a good thing and I'm happy to respond in kind with a little more levity."

The new policy won't take effect until Governor Hickenlooper ratifies the ballots, that should happen within 30 days.
