UMHB Men's Soccer Places Seven on ASC All-Conference Teams - kcentv.com - KCEN HD - Waco, Temple, and Killeen

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team placed seven players on the American Southwest Conference All-Conference teams released today. The Cru was one of three teams placing a conference-high four athletes on the All-ASC First Team, adding one player on the Third Team and two Honorable Mention all-conference picks.

Chris Torres earned a first-team all-conference selection for the third consecutive season. Torres, a junior from Houston, Texas (Pasadena Dobie H.S.), was one of the top defenders for a team that allowed just 16 goals on the season. The ASC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year also added four goals and one assist, ranking him second on the team in goals and points (nine) this season.

Senior Derek Geels was also named to the All-ASC First Team. A Wylie, Texas (Wylie H.S.), native, Geels led the team in goals (11), points (25), shots (37) and game-winning goals (three). He recorded two hat tricks this season and was also a two-time ASC Offensive Player of the Week selection.

Goalkeeper Brandon Stegmeyer and midfielder Tyler Wicks were also first-team selections. Stegmeyer, a junior from Temple, Texas (Temple H.S.), allowed just 14 goals this season for a 0.91 goals against average. He recorded 42 saves for UMHB and 5.1 shutouts on the season. Wicks, a sophomore from Willis Point, Texas (Willis Point H.S.) led the Cru in assists (five) and ranked fifth in points (five) and sixth in shots (13). 

Junior defender Brandon Dutton was selected to the All-ASC Third Team. Dutton, a Temple, Texas (Temple H.S.), native, started all 17 games for the Cru and contributed to a defense that allowed just 16 goals and 68 shots on goal.

Sophomores Jeremy Bowler and John Williams both earned All-ASC Honorable Mention. Bowler, a Katy, Texas (Seven Lakes H.S.), native, scored one goal for UMHB this season and anchored the Cru backline, leading the team to seven shutouts. Williams, a native of Lake Jackson, Texas (Brazoswood H.S.), ranked second on the team in assists (three), points (nine) and shots (34), and third in goals (three).

The UMHB men's soccer team finished the 2012 season with a 10-6-1 overall record. The Cru went 8-3-1 in conference play and earned their fourth consecutive appearance in the ASC tournament, eventually falling to Hardin-Simmons 2-1 in the tournament's quarterfinals.  

This is the third all-conference honor for Torres, second for Geels and first for Stegmeyer, Wicks, Dutton, Bowler and Williams.
