(KCEN) -- A Texas senator could soon become the minority whip.
The Republican caucus is expected to elect Senator John Cornyn on Wednesday.
Cornyn will replace Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona, who is retiring.
As the whip, Cornyn will be in charge of counting and corralling votes on legislation being brought to the Senate floor.
The minority whip is the number two position behind Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
One aide says it's possible other Senators could run against him, but it isn't likely.
