(KCEN) -- A McLennan County Grand Jury indicted a 36-year-old man for the murder of his wife today.
Carnell Petetan was indicted for capital murder because the murder is alleged to have been committed during a burglary or kidnapping.
Petetan is accused of murdering his wife, Kimberly Petetan, at an East Lakeshore Drive apartment in Waco on September 23. The victim died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Neighbors called police that night when they heard gunshots. Officers arrived and found Kimberly and discovered that her 9-year-old daughter, Allyson, was missing. A state-wide search ensued and Bryan police found the child with the suspect.
She was unharmed.
It is believed that Petetan forced his way into the victim's apartment and shot her several times.
At the time of the murder, Petetan had been out of prison for less than six months. He had been sentenced to 20 years in prison in 1993 for attempted murder.
The McLennan County District Attorney's Office has not said whether they will seek the death penalty or not.
