Senator John Cornyn Elected As Minority Whip For 113th Congress

Senator John Cornyn is now the second in command among Senate Republicans.

Wednesday Senator Cornyn was elected to serve as Minority Whip for the 113th Congress.

Senator Cornyn told KCEN he has some big plans for Washington.

After hearing the president's take on the fiscal cliff, Senator Cornyn is more than ready to take his place as Minority Whip.

"It is a non serious proposal when it comes to the trillion dollar annual deficits which we've experienced over the last four years. All you have to do is compare that to the size of the deficit and realize that this doesn't solve the problem," said Cornyn.

Senator Cornyn said that if our nation's debt isn't handled properly, the average American will likely face much higher tax bills and can also expect to see another recession in the near future.

"Well we will be in a recession if the president allows this fiscal cliff to happen and every economist of all striped and every affiliation have agreed with that," Cornyn.

As the Minority Whip, Cornyn said Republicans are ready to listen to the presidents suggestions regarding our nation's economy, but the current proposals on the table aren't serious solutions for them to consider.

"What I worry about is if we raise tax rates during a fragile economic recovery that its going to hurt the economy and hurt job creation," said Cornyn.
