
Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team claimed a
total of 18 spots on the American Southwest Conference All-Conference
Team released today.
The Cru also took four of the special awards handed out by the ASC.
Linebacker Javicz Jones was voted Defensive Player of the Year for the
second straight year, offensive guard Michael Coles was voted ASC
Offensive Lineman of the Year, offensive tackle Sa Maxie was named to
the ASC Outstanding Sportsmen of the Year Team and head coach Pete
Fredenburg was named ASC Co-Coach of the Year.
Jones, a
senior linebacker from Katy Morton Ranch High School, leads the Cru and
the ASC with 96 total tackles and six interceptions. He also has 7.0
tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumbles recoveries
and a blocked kick. Jones became the first player in UMHB or ASC history
to return two interceptions for touchdowns in a single game and also
became the leading tackler in school and conference history this season.
He has four total touchdowns on the year and also recorded a safety.
Jones was also voted to the All-Conference First Team at linebacker.
Coles,
a senior offensive guard from San Antonio Stevens High School, was the
highest-grading lineman for an offense that is averaging 315.5 rushing
yards and 536.9 yards of total offense per game. UMHB has also allowed
just ten sacks on the year. Coles was also voted to the All-Conference
First Team at offensive guard.
Maxie, a senior offensive
tackle from Austin Bowie High School, joined Coles on the Cru offensive
front line. He was voted to the ASC Outstanding Sportsmen Team and also
claimed a spot on the All-Conference First Team at offensive tackle.
Running
back Elijah Hudson and tight end Tyler Coker joined Coles and Maxie on
the All-Conference First Team offense. Hudson, a junior h-back from
Albany High School, has 489 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the
season and has hauled in 19 passes for 271 yards and another score.
Coker, a senior tight end from Salado High School, has six catches for
84 yards and a touchdown and is an outstanding blocker, as well.
Jones
is joined on the All-Conference First Team defense by three teammates.
Defensive tackle Silvio Diaz, a junior from Leander High School, has 39
tackles and leads the Cru with 13.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks on
the season. Defensive end Korey Steward, a junior from Fort Worth
Southwest High School, has 28 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.5
sacks. He has also blocked two kicks on the season. Cru back Mike
Maldonado, a senior from El Paso Del Valle High School, has 45 tackles,
5.0 tackles for loss and four pass break-ups on the year.
The
Cru placed four players on the All-Conference Second Team Offense.
Quarterback LiDarral Bailey, a senior from Bremond High School, has
broken every UMHB passing record this season, hitting 141 of 200 passes
for 1,931 yards and 20 touchdowns. Bailey also has 684 rushing yards and
11 more touchdowns on the ground. Wide receiver Geoff Myles, a senior
from San Antonio Stevens High School, leads UMHB with 40 receptions for
635 yards and five touchdowns. Offensive tackle Rudy Montana Duncan, a
junior from Mineola High School, is another talented member of the Cru
offensive line. Running back Darius Wilson, a senior from Cy-Springs
High School, leads the Cru with 688 rushing yards and has six touchdowns
despite missing three full games with injury. Wilson also has 14
receptions for 126 yards and three TD's.
The Cru had
three players voted to the All-Conference Second Team Defense. Defensive
end Michael Johnson, a sophomore from Kempner High School, has 29
tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. Cornerback Brodrick Crain, a
junior from Belton High School, has 52 tackles, three interceptions and
a team-best seven pass break-ups. Punter Chad Peevey, a junior from St.
Joseph's High School in Bryan, is averaging 41.0 yards per punt and has
11 kicks of 50 or more yards on the season.
Three Cru
players earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors. Peevey was named
Honorable Mention at placekicker. He has hit 9-17 field goals and 51-54
extra points on the season. Peevey has a long field goal of 48 yards
and also handles kickoff duties for the Cru. Myles took Honorable
Mention honors at kick returner. He is averaging 35.0 yards per kickoff
return and 7.9 yards per punt return on the season and is the ASC's
all-time leader in punt returns. Free safety Cody Jones was named to the
Honorable Mention defense. Jones, a junior from Hughes Springs High
School, has 56 tackles, two interceptions and six pass break-ups on the
year.
Pete Fredenburg was voted ASC Coach of the Year for
the seventh time in his career and for the third straight season.
Fredenburg led the Cru to a third consecutive 10-0 regular season and
UMHB won the ASC title for the tenth time overall with a 7-0 league
mark. Fredenburg shares Coach of the Year honors with Louisiana College
head coach Dennis Dunn.
This is the third ASC
All-Conference selection for Bailey, Jones, Myles and Peevey. This is
the second ASC All-Conference honor for Coles, Diaz, Hudson, Maxie,
Steward and Wilson. The other UMHB players earned All-Conference honors
for the first time. Sul Ross State University running back Dominique
Carson was voted ASC Offensive Player of the Year. Texas Lutheran
University kicker Allen Cain took Special Teams Player of the Year
honors. Hardin-Simmons defensive tackle Undra Hendrix was named ASC
Defensive Lineman of the Year. Texas Lutheran wide receiver Casey Davis
and Hardin-Simmons wide receiver Jessie Ramos shared Freshman of the
Year honors.
UMHB will advance to the NCAA Division III
National Championships for the ninth straight year and the Cru will open
the postseason with a 12:00 PM home game against ASC rival Louisiana
College this Saturday
at Tiger Field. The Cru has won at least one playoff game in each of the
last eight years and UMHB joins Mount Union as the only two Division
III programs in the country to have accomplished that feat.
