UPDATE (KCEN) -- The Fort Hood soldier who was killed after being struck by a vehicle this weekend has now been identified as 38-year-old Sgt. Juan Mendoza Vargas.

Vargas' home of record is Las Vegas, Nev. He joined the military in August 2006 as a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear specialist.

He had been assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, Phantom Command, III Corps at Fort Hood since September 2012.

Vargas served in Operation Enduring Freedom from February 2008 to February 2009 and from April 2010 to April 2011.

(KCEN) -- A Fort Hood Soldier is dead after being hit by a vehicle last night.

The 38-year-old victim was crossing the street near the 400 Block of S. Fort Hood St around 11:00 P.M when he was struck by a 2000 Ford Mustang.

Witnesses say the victim stepped into the vehicles's path causing the driver, a 20-year-old male, to hit him.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Justice of the Peace.

The name of the victim is being withheld at this time.

The investigation is still ongoing.
