(KCEN) -- The glimmer of hope for Twinkies is now gone.

A last-ditch contract mediation session by Hostess fell flat last night, moving the company closer to liquidation.

Hostess is now headed back to Federal Bankruptcy Court, where it has permission to close its operations.

But Twinkies, Ho-Hos and Ding Dongs may survive this ordeal.

Other food companies will have the chance to purchase the brands from Hostess in an auction.
