Washington Schools Could Be Banned From Having Native American-Themed Mascots

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Public high schools in Washington could soon be facing a change.

The Seattle Human Rights Commission passed a resolution that would bar schools from using Native American symbols as their namesakes.

Critics say the symbol could be offensive and cause self-esteem issues among Native American teens.

More than 30 schools in the state of Washington reference Native American culture in their mascot names.
