IRVING, Texas – Baylor set a new program record, as three Bears were
named to the All-Big 12 team, the conference office announced Monday. Junior Zoe Adom earned first-team honors, while seniors Torri Campbell and Alyssa Dibbern claimed second-team recognition.
Adom,
a 6-0 native of Euless, Texas, led the Baylor attack with 199 kills in
Big 12 play and ranked fifth in conference-only matches with 3.37
kills/set.
An outside hitter, she finished second on the team in overall matches
with 2.74 k/s and 13 double-digit kill performances, 11 coming in
conference play. Adom, who earned All-Big 12 honors for the first time,
set a new career high with 20 kills in a five-set
loss at Kansas, NCAA national 11 seed, on Oct. 6. The junior nearly topped that with a 19-kill performance in just four sets at Texas Tech on Nov. 21.
Campbell,
a 6-2 native of Amarillo, Texas, was second on the squad in blocks
(91), blocks per game (0.95) and service aces (20). A 2009 Freshman
All-Big
12 selection, she led the team in conference play with 13 aces and was
second in kills (168), kills per game (2.80), blocks (49) and blocks per
game (0.82). Campbell, a middle hitter, had a season-best 16 kills at
Texas Tech on Nov. 21, finishing her season
and career with double-digit kills in three of her last four matches.
Dibbern,
a 6-2 native of Bay City, Texas, led the Bears in points (373), kills
(330), kills per set (2.87) and double-digit kill matches (20) and
finished
ninth in the Big 12 in kills/set. The right-side hitter was also third
in total blocks (81) and blocks/set (0.70). Selected for her first
conference honor, Dibbern set a new career high with 21 kills in a 3-2
win over TCU on Oct. 17, the most by a Baylor player
this season.
Campbell's
honor marks the fifth consecutive season that Baylor has had a middle
hitter earn all-conference honors. The trio makes 10 overall all-Big
12 honorees under head coach Jim Barnes.
Baylor finished the season with a 20-12 record, the sixth 20-win season in program history and second under Barnes.
