(KCEN) -- A Copperas Cove student was arrested today after being found with a gun.
It happened at the S.C. Lee Junior High this morning in the 1200 block of Courtney Lane.
School administrators say the unloaded handgun was found inside the backpack of a 13-year-old 8th grade student.
The student was processed as a juvenile for the "places weapons prohibited" felony and transported to the Bell County Juvenile Detention Facility.
In a statement, Copperas Cove IDS Superintendent Dr. Joe Burns said, "The decisive action taken by the S.C. Lee administrative staff to locate and secure the weapon served to minimize disruption to the learning process and maintain the safety of students and staff."
A letter was sent home to all parents at the end of the school day.
