Governor Perry Says Major Changes To Come For Texans

Posted: Updated:

Could lower taxes be in our future?

Governor Rick Perry said yes.

He delivered a preview of his State of the State Address in Waco Tuesday.

His message was primarily about changes that could come during next year's legislative session.

He also talked about Texas' many accomplishments, including what it's taken for the state to have one of the strongest job climates in the nation.

More than 500-people were at the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce State of the State Luncheon.

Focusing on taxes and the economy, the governor said we need to look at reducing the tax burden on all Texans.

He supports a stricter constitutional limit on spending, and opposes any tax increases.

Governor Perry also highlighted several priorities like drug testing all welfare and unemployment applicants.

Education was also on his list.

He said we need to improve education that will later develop into a better workforce, and that will continue to build the states growing economy.

"Texas remains the destination for CEOs that are seeking the best place to expand or to relocate their businesses, it remains a top destination for people seeking a better life," said Governor Perry.

"It really is about freedom. it's not just the individual liberties, but the financial freedom to go succeed and achieve, be rewarded for your efforts and labor and not be punished for it," said Texas Senator Brian Birdwell.
