New Top Commander In Afghanistan Named

Posted: Updated:

The President selected GEN Joseph Dunford to take over as top commander in Afghanistan, and today the Senate Armed Services Committee gave him its stamp of approval.

He's the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps who had directed combat forces in Iraq.

Dunford will replace GEN John Allen, whose nomination to take charge in Europe is on hold.

That's because he was caught up in the sex scandal involving CIA Director David Patraeus.
