
The McLennan Highlanders moved to 8-3 on the season with an 84-81 overtime victory over the Southern Shreveport Jaguars tonight in Shreveport.
Southern
Shreveport jumped out to an early five-point lead but MCC fought back,
taking the 11-9 lead with 14:57 to go in the first half. The Highlanders
extended the lead to 11 down the stretch and held the 40-31 advantage
at the break.
The Jaguars opened the second half on an 8-0 run,
cutting the lead to one. MCC extended the lead to seven with 4:25 to
play in the game. Southern Shreveport rallied, cutting the lead to one
on a pair of A.J. Shine free throws with 42 seconds on the clock. Tevin
Hanner went one of two from the free throw line with seven seconds to
go, giving MCC the 71-69 lead. Shine drained two free throws in the last
second to force the overtime.
Southern Shreveport led 81-80 with
54 seconds to go in the extra period. DeChriston McKinney's bucket gave
MCC the 82-81 advantage and Hanner's basket with two seconds to go
sealed the win.
Shawn Prudhomme led the Highlanders with 18
points and Devonse Reed added 16. Tevin Hanner and Clarence Willard
scored 14 and 12, respectively. DeChriston McKinney added 10.
MCC returns to action tomorrow, hosting Lone Star College-Tomball at 4 p.m.
