(KCEN) -- The United Nations is offering a $20,000 reward to anyone who can invent a cheap and renewable energy solution for families without power.
The energy will be used for 3,000 Bosnian families who are without power.
The families returned to their homes after the war in the 1990s where there is no access to electricity.
The winning solution would help people who live far off the Bosnian power grid and possibly many others as well.
UN Resident Coordinator in Bosnia Yuri Afanasiev said, "We want a solution that is simple, that anybody can operate, that is quality, that is foolproof and doesn't require a lot of maintenance."
Renewable energy kits do exist in the form of solar panels, but what the UN wants is something less expensive and suitable for Bosnia's harsh climate.
