Families of Fallen Soldiers Arrive in Dallas Through Snowball Express

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- The families of fallen soldiers, including 24 from right here in Fort Hood are now in DFW for the 7th Annual Snowball Express.

Volunteers greeted them with thunderous applause to deliver a simple message, 'Thank You.'

The 1,700 children and spouses will spend five days in North Texas.

Heading to the Stock Yards, Six Flags, and even participating in a parade.

Jennifer Stratton who lost her husband in Afghanistan says, "The first event we went to my daughter Delaney looked around at all the people and she said 'They haven't forgotten Daddy' and I said, 'No they haven't.' It's America at its best, we just love coming to Texas and that Texans remember our fallen heroes."

Seventeen-hundred family members made the trek which is actually paid by generous businesses and charities.

They will head home on Tuesday.
