(KCEN) -- A high speed chase in Bell County with an armed man, nearing 100 mph, shut down Highway 190 this afternoon in Nolanville.

The chase ended in a crash and the driver is in serious critical condition at this hour.

The whole ordeal started when police went to the driver's house to follow up on another issue.

At that point, police say he pulled out a shotgun.

That turned into a chase on foot that escalated into a car chase.

It ended in Nolanville when he lost control of his SUV and flipped onto the westbound side of 190.

He was airlifted to the hospital.

Traffic was shut down both ways for some time this afternoon while debris was cleared and police investigated.

There are still many questions unanswered and at this hour we do not know the name of the driver.

We'll continue to follow this story and bring you the very latest tonight.
