
In a game that came down to the final seconds, the McLennan Highlanders fell to the Kilgore Lady Rangers 64-62 tonight at The Highlands.
MCC
built an early five-point lead but Kilgore responded with an 8-0 run to
take the 10-7 lead with 13:30 to play in the half. The Highlassies
responded with a 12-2 run to take the 19-12 lead and held the 37-31
advantage at the break.
The Lady Rangers cut the lead to two with
13:06 remaining in the game. MCC pulled away again, extending the lead
to nine. Kilgore rallied again, taking the 59-58 lead with just under
two minutes to play. The Lady Rangers extended the lead to four with 38
seconds to go. Dominique Taylor's 3-pointer for MCC cut the lead to one.
Gabrielle Jackson went 1-2 from the free throw line with 13 seconds on
the clock to extend the Kilgore lead to two. The Highlassies had a
chance to steal the win but Rae'Vaughn Barnes' shots bounced off the
iron.
Cha'Zaye Wright led the Highlassies with 15 points and Dominique Taylor added 14.
MCC returns to action on Jan. 1 in the MCC Shoot-Out. The Highlassies will face San Jacinto at 8 p.m.
