(KCEN) -- The National Association of Town Watches for the National Night Out event has awarded the Hewitt Police Department a top honor for their August events.
Hewitt's National Night Out kickoff party and Neighborhood Watch block parties were ranked according to several criteria, including community attendance, type of events and community participation.
Hewitt's events ranked seventh in the national list and first in the state list for cities with a 15,000 and under population.
Police Chief Jim Devlin said, "This is a great achievement for the city of Hewitt. It shows how partnerships between citizens and law enforcement impact crime reduction in a community. Without community involvement in policing the mission becomes one sided. We are proud to hold these types of events and are humbled by the community support we receive."
