Part of I-35 in Hewitt to be Closed for Bridge Replacement

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Drivers, be warned. Next week is a big one for TxDoT and part of I-35 will be closed to traffic.

It's mostly going to affect the Hewitt area at the Sun Valley Exit.

The massive 1.9 billion dollar I-35 expansion is moving South.

A new flyover will close down the southbound lanes at Sun Valley for up to a week as workers install bridge beams.

Ken Roberts with TxDoT said, "They're going to weld them so you'll have lots of sparks falling and all these things."

Before 2017 every bridge on I-35 from Hillsboro to Salado will be replaced.

Flyovers like this one will keep drivers safer and will get them on their way faster.

Starting Monday, I-35 traffic in Hewitt will re-route to the frontage road.

Construction will happen at night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., which means for the most part it will be dark outside and drivers will have to be extra cautious.
