Burglary Suspect on the Loose After Escaping Police Custody

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Authorities in North Texas are searching for a burglary suspect who was arrested handcuffed and somehow managed to free himself and then steal a police cruiser.

The handcuffed suspect in the back seat manages to get his arms back in front of him and then just rolls down the window.

Opens the door from the outside, tiptoes to the front seat and takes off.

White Settlement police say the man drove five to eight miles to an apartment complex where he dumped the car and they actually know him.

White Settlement Police Officer Lt. J.P. Bevering says, "We know who he is. We've dealt with him previously. We know his associates so now we're in the process of contacting them and keeping an eye out for him."

It's still unclear how he rolled down the window that's supposed to be locked at all times.
