(KCEN) -- The search for the woman that left her deceased newborn baby in the Killeen Walmart bathroom continues.
People who live in area are shocked at the situation.
One woman who is a labor and delivery nurse at Metroplex Hospital believes this could have been avoided since the hospital is less than six miles away from Walmart.
Daniel Herold was shopping at Kohl's on the day the child was found when he saw the commotion outside of Walmart.
When he got home and heard the news, he couldn't believe that a deceased newborn would ever be found abandoned at his local grocer.
"I don't see how someone could do that, someone could be so cruel and heartless," Herold said.
The child was found in the women's bathroom around 2:00 p.m. The baby was identified as a girl, but the ethnicity is still unknown.
The mother is still at large but Killeen police say they just want to help her.
The Killeen Police Department is investigating. One of their top priorities is finding the mother of the child.
The community is traumatized by the details.
Jean Dent has lived in Killeen for 40 years and has never heard of anything like this.
"I'd say she's a disgrace. Disgrace to the community, disgrace to all women," Dent said.
Killeen resident Tony Cooper said, "Don't ever quit again. If something ever gets too much for you, find a way to share that with someone because there are enough people around here to let you know that we love you deeply."
As for Herold, he is asking the questions that are on everyone's mind.
"Why and how could they have done this? Isn't their some feeling that shows that this isn't right?" he said.
Killeen Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
