DNA Evidence From Lake Waco Murders Being Analyzed 30 Years Later

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- There is now evidence one attorney says could overturn the convictions in the notorious Lake Waco murders.

DNA is being analyzed right now from the crime scene from 30 years ago.

The Lake Waco murders happened when three teens were brutally murdered in 1982.

Four men were charged in the crime.

One was put to death, two died in prison and the only remaining living defendant is Anthony Melendez.

Attorney Walter Reaves believes the wrong men went to prison and says the DNA analysis could help prove it.

Reaves said, "They just had basic blood tests and they didn't even use that all that often. Science has progressed, and technology has progressed."

The evidence was tied up in a legal battle for the past year.

Reaves says regardless of what comes of the new information, justice is the ultimate goal.
