(KCEN) -- A north Texas man is accused of a brutal assault against his own son, carving a pentagram into his six-year-old's back, then calling 9-1-1.

Brent Bartel told police he did it because it is a holy day, noting the date 12-12-12.

Officers arrived to the Richland Hills home just after midnight to find the freezing child standing in only pajama pants.

He had a pentagram carved over his entire back.

Bartel is charged with aggravated assault.

He's in jail tonight on $500,000 bond.
