(KCEN) -- A four-year-old boy remains in critical condition after accidentally shooting himself in the head.
It was a Houston couple's worst nightmare.
The boy's father admits he left a loaded handgun in a nightstand drawer.
Emergency crews rushed the boy to the hospital.
The boy's mother talked to police while trying to sort out exactly what happened.
Brian Evans of the Houston Police Department said, "The mother believes that the child may have found the weapon earlier and she was unaware of that. And the child may have disclosed, hidden the gun somewhere in the room."
Another two-year-old sibling was asleep in the room when the shooting happened, but was not hurt.
So far no charges have been filed.
