DALLAS --- For the first time in program history, four Texas A&M football players were named first-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America on Friday.
Making history were quarterback Johnny Manziel (Kerrville, Texas), offensive linemen Luke Joeckel (Arlington, Texas) and Jake Matthews (Missouri City, Texas) and defensive lineman Damontre Moore (Rowlett, Texas).
Since the FWAA's inaugural All-America team in 1944, Texas A&M has had multiple selections on the squad just three times previously with back John David Crow and tackle Charlie Krueger making the 1957 team, linebacker Robert Jackson and placekicker Tony Franklin in 1976 and linebacker Marcus Buckley and defensive back Patrick Bates in 1992.
The Aggies had a strong debut season in the rugged Southeastern Conference with a 10-2 overall record, including a 6-2 record in SEC games. The Aggies tied for second in the Western Division and will play in the AT&T Cotton Bowl on Jan. 4, 2013 in Dallas, Texas.
