(KCEN) -- A Mexican official is calling for the release of a former US Marine being held in a Mexican prison.
Jon Hammar was arrested in august for possession of a shotgun.
Hammar's family says he registered the shotgun with customs on the U.S. side of the border and was told that it would be no problem to bring it into Mexico.
But when he tried to register the gun with Mexican Customs officials he was arrested.
Today a Mexican Chamber of Commerce Vice President called for Hammar to be released.
Hammar is charged with possession of a deadly weapon and could face up to 12 years in prison if convicted.
