The tragedy in Connecticut has Copperas Cove parents on edge. That's after school was canceled last week when multiple bomb threats and shooting threats were made to the district. But how do parents feel about sending their kids back to school Monday?
Erica Mcphail is taking full advantage of her family's time together. But while they take family photos, she can't help but think about the families torn apart last Friday in Connecticut. "I'm saddened by it and I think about it every day because I do have a six year old who is in kindergarten and I think about Christmas for them and how difficult everything is going to be," she said
Erica has three children in the Copperas Cove ISD and the shooting hits a little too close to home for Copperas Cove.
After multiple bomb and shooting threats last week to the school district, they canceled classes for the rest of the week.
Erica wonders if those threats could ever come true."Everything is going to go through my mind after Connecticut," she said. "You know you can't get into the elementary without them checking your I.D.'s and going through the office but in the same sense I'm sure you couldn't in Connecticut either."
But school is back in session at CCISD on Monday, and that has parents on edge.
"I've talk to other parents and grandparents and a lot of them talk about home schooling their kids you know not sending them to school in fear of the fact that something is going to happen tomorrow," said Patrizia Chandler, who's grandson goes to CCISD.
"It really worries me. I don't want to send my kids to school for the rest of the week, honestly," said Brian Hamil, who has three kids in CCISD.
Erica will send her kids to school. "It's scary. It really is, but I'm just going to have to trust that everything is going to be okay," she said. But she will hug and kiss them a little tighter before they leave.
Copperas Cove ISD says all campuses have been cleared for children to go back to school Monday.
The district says students need to pack light and only bring what they need for classes.
You may also want to let your children know to be patient Monday morning, they can expect a longer wait to get into school.
