Corrupt Drug Trafficking Case Involving Police Officers Being Investigated in Texas

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- There is a case of high-level corruption involving drug trafficking and officers of the law happening in both the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office and the Mission Police Department.

Officials say 29-year-old Alexis Espinoza and 28-year-old Jonathan Trevino face corruption charges.

But now two Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies are also charged in connection to that case.

Twenty-eight-year-old Fabian Rodriguez and 30-year-old Gerardo Duran have been arrested.

Right now federal agents are making a drug escorting case against the four men.

The investigation revealed that these four men allegedly utilized their positions as law enforcement personnel to escort and protect loads of narcotics and were paid for their services.

Mission Police Chief Martin Garza spoke with reporters about the investigation.

Garza said, "We are firm in the integrity of the police department. We are firm in the no-tolerance of any type of police misconduct and we are going to stand by the conclusion of the investigation."

There are over six federal agencies investigating this case including the FBI, DEA, ICE, and Homeland Security.

Two of the suspects come from law enforcement families.

Jonathan Trevino is the son of Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino and Alexis Espinoza is the son of Hidalgo Police Chief Rudy Espinoza.
