The cause of her death is still being investigated.

A normal neighborhood patrol leads to the discovery of a woman's body in Killeen. The home she was found in was burned and now police are wondering when that fire actually took place.

Taft Street in Killeen is a quiet one. So quiet that Gabriel Gonzales heard a home alarm from three houses away. "I looked up that way where I thought I heard the sound coming from and I didn't see anything going," he said.

But police officers patrolling the neighborhood heard the alarm too.

"It led them to this residence here and that's where they got off their vehicles to determine what was going on," said Ofelia Miramontez, of KPD Public Affairs.

Inside the home at 2709 Taft Street police found that it had been burned. You can see the windows are still covered with black smoke.

They also found a white woman in her mid-fifties lying in the kitchen, she was pronounced dead at 8:00 a.m.

Garbriel says the victim matches the description of the woman who lives in the home, "most of the time you know I hardly ever seen her," he said.

"A old lady stayed there. She's was a pretty nice old lady and I only talked to her one time about last year or something, cut her grass about one time," said Michael Raddick, another neighbor on Taft Street.

But what worries Gabriel is that no one noticed there was fire on Taft Street, though he had his suspicions over the weekend.

"Sunday," Gabriel said. "Sunday morning, that's when I noticed I thought I smelled smoke, and I asked my neighbor then across the street if he saw any fire or anything because you could smell something burning."

Police are still investigating this incident and at this time they say they do not know the cause of the fire or the death of the woman.

The victim's identity has not yet been confirmed.
