(KCEN) -- Man's best friend is headed to Newton.
Volunteers are hoping some caring pets will help ease the pain of residents in Newton after Friday's shooting.
Nine golden retrievers made their way to the Connecticut from Illinois for an emotional rescue.
The therapeutic canines are sponsored and trained by Lutheran Church charities to help comfort people of all ages, in this case the children who survived the attack at Sandy Hook Elementary.
The dogs have also helped victims of floodings from hurricanes.
