Peterson Sworn In as New McLennan County Justice of the Peace

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- W. H. Pete Peterson was sworn in this morning as the new McLennan County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1, Place 2.

Peterson is replacing Billy Martin, who recently retired with two years left in his term.

The McLennan County Commissioner's Court had the task of choosing someone to fill Martin's place and they appointed Peterson on December 11. Peterson was sworn in this morning to officially fill the position.

He will serve the rest of the two year term, until December 31, 2014 and then plans to run for election after that.

Peterson is retired from the Texas Highway Patrol, where he served 33 years. He came out of retirement to take the position of Justice of the Peace.

Peterson had run against Judge Kristi DeCluitt for Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1, Place 1 in the primary election in McLennan County earlier this year but was defeated.
