(KCEN) -- We have an update on the Marine veteran jailed in Mexico for trying to carry a family heirloom shotgun across the border.
Twenty-seven-year-old Jon Hammar is finally free.
He was released from a detention center in Mexico last night after being jailed for months.
The U.S. consulate general met him at the detention center and escorted him to the U.S. border where he was reunited with his family.
Hammar and a friend planned to drive across the Mexican border on their way to Costa Rica in August when Mexican officials jailed them for carrying the shotgun which belonged to Hammar's great-grandfather.
