(KCEN) -- Accidents aren't the only hazard on the road this time of year.
During the holidays drunk drivers also increase.
Texas State Troopers want to remind drivers they'll be out in full force over the next few weeks.
They're rolling out a new initiative called Person Appointed to Stay Sober or P.A.S.S.
It's designed to decrease the amount of DWI's.
Some of the most important things to remember before you head to holiday parties don't drive distracted don't text while behind the wheel and most importantly slow down.
State Trooper Harphin Myers says, "Last year, DPS made 1,100 arrest around this time. And about 350 of those were a direct result from increased patrol."
DPS tells us a DWI could add up to $17,000 dollars in fees.
