NYC Adding Extra Security in Times Square for New Years Eve - kcentv.com - KCEN HD - Waco, Temple, and Killeen

(KCEN) -- New York City Police say Times Square will be the safest place in the world on New Year's Eve.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to watch the ball drop and ring in the New Year.   

Thousands of extra officers have been assigned.  

And uniformed police K-9 units and counter terrorism teams will line the streets.

Many officers will carry radiation detectors to detect evidence of a dirty bomb.
