(KCEN) -- Former Arizona Congressman Gabby Giffords is attending a private event in Newton, Conn. today.

According to Connecticut Gov. Dan Mallory's office, the event will be hosted at private residence.

Giffords survived a mass shooting two years ago. She was shot in the head at campaign event in Tucson, Ariz.

It left six people dead, including a nine-year-old girl.

Newtown is still reeling after last month's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.
