
Tyler, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team
scored the game's first two points, but the Cru never led again in a
72-59 loss to U.T.-Tyler Saturday
afternoon in Tyler. The UMHB women fall to 2-10 overall and 1-6 in
American Southwest Conference play with the loss. The Patriots improve
to 9-4 overall and 4-3 in ASC play on the year with the victory.
Katelyn
Smith's lay-up 28 seconds into the game gave the Cru a 2-0 lead.
U.T.-Tyler answered with a three-pointer 15 seconds later and the
Patriots would not trail again. The lead would grow to as many as 19
points in the first half and UMHB trailed 42-24 at halftime. U.T.-Tyler
would stretch the lead to as many as 23 points in the second half and
the Cru would not get closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Taylor
Tucker led UMHB with 19 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Macy
Moore added 13 points and Jovana Miles scored eight, but no one else had
more than four points for the Cru. UMHB shot 51 percent from the field
in the game and did not attempt a three-pointer. The Cru turned the ball
over 23 times and lost the rebounding battle 34-27.
Lauren
Glasco led a balanced U.T.-Tyler attack with 18 points and a game-high
11 rebounds. Breann McMillan added 15 points and Olivia Burns and
She'Cara Humphrey chipped in 11 points apiece. The Patriots shot 43
percent from the field and hit 17-25 from the free-throw line in the
victory.
Saturday's game closes out ASC crossover play
for the Cru women. UMHB will now return home to open ASC West Division
play with a pair of games next week. The Cru will host Concordia Texas
for a 5:30 PM start on Tuesday before closing out the week with a 1:00
PM start against Hardin-Simmons University next Saturday.
