A Killeen home goes up in flames just after six Sunday evening.
Killeen Fire Department crews say the right front portion of the home located on the intersection of Wisconsin street and Mimosa was completely engulfed when they arrived.
"They found out later that they had a fire in the attic. It kind of rolled over them so they had to evacuate the building for a short time and bring in a little bit bigger nozzle," says Kenneth Hawthorne, Administrative Deputy Chief Killeen Fire Department.
The house was vacant, but firefighters worked quickly to defend nearby homes. The power to the home was also cut off to prevent any further fires.
An EMS unit was also part of the response team since a new law requires fire departments to check on the condition of their firefighters every 30 minutes.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is being investigated by the Fire Marshall.
