(KCEN) -- London's newest landmark, is also its tallest.
A new skyscraper, called the Shard Building, is preparing to open to the public next month.
Standing taller than 1,000 feet in the air, it is western Europe's tallest building and will offer unprecedented views of the capital.
The architect to designed the skyscraper, William Matthews, said it is a unique addition to the London skyline.
Matthews said, "In New York doing a skyscraper is just another tree in the forest. In London there is no forest, so the building instead of being seen in the context of other tall buildings was going to be seen against the sky."
It will be home to offices, a few exclusive apartments, a hotel and an observation deck for tourists.
