(KCEN) -- American Express is cutting more than 5,000 jobs.

They say the decision comes because of an industry shift to the Internet.

The company says they believe the company will still be able to serve their growing customer base with less staff.

Overall they say they expect to reduce the current workforce by four to six percent by the end of the year.
