(KCEN) -- Here's some good news for recent college graduates.
Starting salaries for the class of 2012 were a little higher than in years past.
A survey from the National Association of Colleges and Employers show the average starting salary of new grads was a little more than $44,000.
That's the best year-over-year rise since the class of 2008.
The salary averages are only for those graduates who found jobs in their fields of study, not for those who simply took any job they could find.
But employment is scarce for new workers.
A separate study of 2012 graduates showed that fewer than 30 percent of students polled had a job offer ahead of gradation.
