Military Suicide Numbers for 2012 Increase From Previous Years

Posted: Updated:

(KECN) -- It's a grim look at the struggles our troops face here at home.

New numbers on military suicides make 2012 the worst since the Pentagon began tracking them in 2001.

In all, 239 service members committed suicide last year.

Another 110 deaths remain under investigation as suspected suicides.

Now, if those are confirmed, that would bring the total to 348 for 2012.

That's the most since 2001.

At Fort Hood the number of suicides has also spiked.

Fourteen deaths are confirmed suicides and five others are still being looked into.

That's a total of 19, up from ten in 2011.
