(KCEN) -- It's a fall that would mean almost certain death, but a little Chihuahua puppy did the impossible and survived an 80 foot fall off a California cliff.

The puppy tumbled over the edge of the cliff last Friday in San Diego.

It has broken ribs and suffered some head trauma.

Lifeguards believe someone was walking the dog and abandoned it after it fell.

The puppy remains at an animal hospital, where it is expected to make a full recovery.
