The game was tit-for-tat through the first 10 minutes of play. The teams
were tied at 16 with 9:32 to play in the half. MCC used a 13-2 run to
take its first double-digit lead at 29-18 with 6:40 to go. The
Highlassies extended the lead to 16 down the stretch and held the 42-28
advantage at the break.
Temple fought back in the second half,
cutting the lead to eight with 8:40 remaining in the game but was unable
to pull any closer.
Traonna Shedrick led the Highlassies with 16
points. Cha' Zaye Wright and Latifah Rainey added 12 and 11,
respectively. Shanice Davis and Sondra Flippin scored 10 points each.
In men's action, the McLennan Highlanders defeated the Temple Leopards 85-70.
The
two teams traded baskets until midway through the first half. Temple
pulled away with a 7-0 run to take the 27-20 lead with 6:35 to play in
the half. The Leopards extended the lead to 11 with 40 seconds. MCC
scored four points in the final 15 seconds to cut the lead to seven at
halftime.
Temple led 49-41 with 17:04 remaining in the game. The
Highlanders used a 9-0 run in the next three minutes to take the 50-49
lead, the first MCC lead since the 10:52 mark of the first half. MCC
began to pull away, leading by as many as 16 down the stretch.
